Teams Compete in YOLO Paddle Battle

YOLO premiered its first very first stand-up paddle board race at Baton Rouge Beach on the LSU lakes on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Congratulations, to Team Bennett, of Bennett’s Ski School in Zachary, who took first-place honors in the co-ed division; the ladies of Williamson Cosmetics won the women's division; and Butter Epic who dominated the men's race. The first-ever "paddle battle" in Baton Rouge consisted of 10 teams of four people and approximately 80 fans braved the cold and windy weather to attend the exciting competition.

The event was sponsored by YOLO Board and Spectrum Fitness Clubs and will become a four-race series beginning Spring 2010.

Spectrum and YOLO wishes to thank the following teams that competed: All Time Low, Bennett's Ski School, Beyond Borders, Butter Epic, Marcello's, Southdowns Spectrum, Team Crucial, Tiger District, Williamson Cosmetics and YOLO 2.

YOLO boarding or SUP, stand-up paddleboarding, is soon to be the nation’s fastest growing watersport/recreational activity.

Using a canoe-like paddle and standing atop a larger version of a traditional longboard surfboard, paddlers push themselves through the water with perfectly choreographed side to side paddle strokes.

YOLOing is the brainchild of founders Jeff Archer and Tom Losee. The two business owners and entrepreneurs determined that there was a need for more of a hybrid style stand-up paddle board-one that not only has its roots in traditional surfing but also in other related paddle sports such as canoeing and kayaking.

YOLOing also offers a phenomenal core workout similar to swimming or cycling.
